Jack Link's Survey Reveals Consumer Protein Label Confusion
Link Snacks, maker of Jack Link's, commissioned a survey of 2,000 Americans about protein confusion in snacking. Results showed 58% trust meat snacks most for health benefits, well ahead of protein shakes and bars, yet only 24% called meat the "healthiest" option, behind bars and shakes. Nearly a third believe most high-protein or BFY claims live up to their promises, but 88% said BFY labels often fail to explain what makes a product better. Respondents also reported label fatigue.

Pladis Pledges To Double Its Healthy Snack Sales
Pladis pledged to double sales of products with lower sugar, salt and saturated fat, and higher fiber and protein, by 2030. These products currently contribute 10% of the company’s sales volume. It aims to do this through reformulation, new product development and range expansion. Dr. Jennifer Moss, Pladis chief R&D officer, said "great taste will always come first" even as reformulation continues. A new global nutrition framework, built on systems including Nutri-Score in France and the UK's Nutrient Profile Model, will guide product development across the portfolio.
Smash Foods Lands $18 Million From L Catterton
BFY snack and pantry brand Smash Foods raised $18 million in growth financing led by L Catterton. Company data show 2025 revenue tripled amid demand for lower-sugar, higher-protein products. Gimme Seaweed Hires New CMO For Growth

Ultra-Processed Food Rules Could Reshape Snack Manufacturing
Regulators worldwide are moving toward formal definitions of ultra-processed foods, a shift that manufacturers can no longer avoid. In the US, the FDA and USDA are developing a federal UPF definition following a 2025 request for information tied to the Make America Healthy Again agenda. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the definition remains under White House review. California's Assembly Bill 1264 created a statutory UPF definition for school meals, and at least 17 US states propose similar measures. Food scientist Kantha Shelke said processing level alone should not be used to judge nutritional quality. India Snacking Report Highlights Protein And Transparency Demand
Farmley's third Healthy Snacking Report surveyed more than 6,000 respondents and found protein has moved beyond fitness circles into mainstream snack expectations. Nearly 86% said protein matters when choosing snacks, and 32% would pay a premium for protein-rich options. Ingredient transparency ranked as the leading factor for 62% of respondents, outweighing celebrity or influencer endorsements. Natural sweeteners are gaining favor too. Parents are shifting habits, with nearly 60% saying they would pay more for healthier children's snacks. Farmley co-founder Akash Sharma said the findings show consumers are "seeking snacks that offer functionality, transparency and convenience."

Ulu Foods founder Courtney Mills turned Barbados breadfruit into a gluten-free cracker line that reached number one by units sold within three weeks of joining Sprouts Farmers Market's innovation set. FSSAI Targets Misleading Health Claims In India
India's Food Safety and Standards Authority issued notices to multiple food and beverage brands over claims such as "healthy," "no added sugar" and "protein-packed," prompting some companies to revise labels. The Advertising Standards Council of India data show 85% of 158 flagged digital ads between January and June required changes. D2C brand The Whole Truth changed its labeling to "sweetened with dates" as FSSAI bars "no added sugar" claims when sugar substitutes are used. Intersnack Group of Germany agreed to acquire Utz Brands in a deal valuing the US snack maker at roughly $2.9 billion, a 91% premium over Utz’s July 20 closing value. Rice and Lissette family shareholders will retain 50% ownership once Utz goes private, with Intersnack holding the remainder. Wilde Protein Snacks founder Jason Wright hosted NASCAR drivers Carson Kvapil and Rajah Carruth at the company's Clark County, Kentucky facility to celebrate its growth. Wright launched Wilde in 2018 after seeking a chicken-based alternative to potato chips. Wright sponsors Kvapil's number 1 car and pays for the Wilde logo to appear at three NASCAR races annually, including Las Vegas, St. Louis and Indianapolis. Indian-Australian snack brand Bhuja introduced its first major rebrand since launching in 1987, rolling out simultaneously across Australia, the US and select international markets. Updates include a new visual identity, two brand characters named Asha and Raja the Tiger, a repositioned range architecture and a new tagline: "Real Food. Bold Crunch." Majans director Rick Raniga said the change is "about modernising the way we present Bhuja" while staying true to its flavor and heritage. Mission MightyMe’s new Nutty Puffs for children are now available in 240 H-E-B locations and on heb.com, extending the brand’s retail footprint to 3,700 brick-and-mortar stores in the US. Nutty Puffs are pediatrician-developed puffed snacks made with peanuts and multiple tree nuts, formulated to support early allergen introduction in infants. They consist of more than 50% nuts and ancient grain sorghum, and are organic, non-GMO, rice-free, corn-free and gluten-free, with no refined sugars.
CJ CheilJedang Launches Bibigo Seaweed Snack Targeting Global Markets
South Korean food company CJ CheilJedang’s Bibigo gim bugak is a premium seaweed snack in three varieties - glutinous rice, spicy and shrimp. Positioned around “traditional, handmade, premium” credentials, they are aimed at capitalizing on rising domestic and international demand for gim-based snacks. CJ CheilJedang’s gim business grew at an average annual rate of around 30% between 2023 and 2025, reaching 120 billion Korean won in domestic sales last year. Tasting events are planned at Korean big-box supermarkets in July, alongside a pop-up activation at a major Seoul retail location.
